Had a great experience popping into Winchell's on south Main Street in Salinas. They put together a half dozen donuts for me with a bear claw and apple fritter in no time. The donuts are tasty, fresh and service is impeccable. They helped me get in and out and on my way quickly to serve up breakfast treats. The ambiance is casual and no frills. I used to stop in here very late at night after work and ask for the donuts that just came off the fryer. They usually were the glazed donuts. They were so warm and light and airy and delicious. They have a great variety to choose from. They even have great hot coffee.

A standby, classic donut shop in Salinas. Stopped by on a Sunday evening and there was a HUGE selection of donuts to choose from. Made a wide variety of picks & they were all lovely to look at & eat up. Great textures--fresh, fluffy, cakey, moist, & crunchy depending on the type. They weren't cloyingly sweet & I appreciated that some non-glazed versions were available. Love that they have smaller sized bear claws & apple fritters. The lady behind the counter was patient & very friendly as we deliberated on what to get. Couldn't help but have a big, excited smile on my face as I carried out my box of a dozen.
